Seriously? I cannot believe this. I hate to be up in arms about something that might be happened 3 months from now. Kinda a waste of energy. However the Sam thing is bugging me. Sam stood by while Bill set her up. CH may have forgotten that but I haven’t. This is a biggie. On par with Bill setting her up in the first place. Front row to your friend getting the snot beat out of her and you just stay in collie form. Not a lion, tiger, bear? Anything to help her and you don’t. I have no patience to the bystander theory.
Sam tells her he has an entire library at his disposal but never let her see it. I forget the book but he just says “oh yeah Sook I know all about the people you are mixing with. But I can’t let you see it cause it’s against shifter code? She already knew he was a shifter and proved she can be trusted. So it’s ok to have Sookie save his bar but it’s not ok to give her access to something that might save her life. Really? He isn’t her friend. Pam is her friend, as in she tells her what she needs to know at great risk to herself. That’s a friend.
This happened twice if I recall. Once he mentioned the network then he tells her about the library.
Flirts with her. Totally disrespecting her relationships. Then goes out with all these crazy azz chicks and has the nerve to give her boyfriend advice. Dr. Phil he ain’t! I know this is subtle and kinda a read between the lines sort of thing but you don’t do this. Nary a word about his questionable “taste” in women. Although Sookie has mentioned it. And the maenad! OMG! Remember he was frolicking around with the maenad after she/it has craved it’s name in Sookie’s back? Again is this a friend? Janna has totally disrespected Sookie to her face and yet he holds Sookie in such high regard that he continues to see her? I know you can’t break up with someone cause your friend doesn’t like them, however you can tell her to cool that shit. He doesn’t.
Then he took Sookie to that wedding even though he knows Janna is crazy and dangerous. How are you going to put your girl in the line of fire like that? How do you direct Janna’s wrath towards Sookie because she doesn’t look good enough for family. Go stag. I do it all the time.
I am not saying don’t be friends with Sam, but HEA, don’t think so.
I will take TB Sam (drinking, violent past and all) over Book Sam any day. For all the reasons you listed. And more.
See, the thing is, I don’t buy it for a second that any of these assholes are Sookie’s HEA (or whatever the term). I believe it’s Eric, and the rest is just dragging us around so she doesn’t absolutely spell out “Eric” before the end of the series.
What I don’t get is why are they still being played? Sookie and Eric have a lot of issues to resolve before they can be together well and truly. There’s no need for all those half-assed, “we forgot about you for a couple of books and so did Sookie” reusable would-be suitors.
Sam is not even a real friend, you are right about that. And Alcide never was, either. The guy uses her to advance in the pack and bolts when things are tough. And Quinn was clearly a mistake (a mistake that led Madden to her door). And don’t even get me started on Bill.
If there was any real possibility for Sookie that isn’t Eric, it would have been cultivated as such. And I don’t even know if the book really does imply that Sookie is going down that laundry list and checking off “HEA/NOT HEA” boxes. I rather think it’s the reviewer inferring something that’s not there, or just taking the fact that these dudes are present in the plot as a sign that they are also present in Sookie’s “choices” roaster.
The bigger issue for me is not the asshole brigade. There are two things that turn my stomach: 1. That Sookie still doesn’t apparently know if she loves Eric enough or not (seriously? “Big Love” question? Seriously? Still?); and 2. That she is going around a-sleuthing (or doing anything) with her rapist. This shit’s fucked up.
I’m pretty sure Charlaine answered the Big Love question in the last book. You know, with Sookie (recklessly) breaking the blood bond and realizing how much she loved Eric even without it. Perhaps someone should have reminded Charlaine of what she wrote. Might want to remind her of Bill’s rape, too. And how she wrote him when the series started as a violent, controlling, abusive, kidnapping douche who would punish Sookie with rape whenever he got pissed.
As far as Quinn, Sam, and Alcide, the three of together are about as useful as tits on a turtle, as loyal as an alligator, as trustworthy as a smirking dolphin, and as dependable as a thing that is really fucking undependable. Quinn’s a traitor, Alcide’s useless, and Sam is shifty as shit and incredibly disrespectful to Jannalynn by taking Sookie to that wedding and pretending they were dating, rather than going stag or act like a fucking man by being proud of his lady, whomever his lady might be, even if she dresses like a stripper and punches shit a lot. Such a dick move, Sam.
Eric’s no prince, but sweet zombie Jesus, why do any of those other dudes even warrant page time? Eric and Sookie got enough to fucking deal with without a goddamn clip show at the eleventh hour.
